ERGIL Storagetech™ Flame Arrestor (Vertical, in-line, deflagration)

Flame-Arrester-1Model No: 300

ERGIL Storagetech™’s Model 340 Vertical In-line Deflagation Flame Arrestor (also called flame arrestor or fire arrestor) is intended for pipeline installation close to the source of any potential ignition source by minimising flame speed and the development of an explosive pressure.

The flame quenching element is designed to be three or four times the area of the pipe in which it is installed, and is assembled between two flanged reducing spools. The element comprises a tightly rolled scroll or scrolls of crimped stainless steel ribbon to form passages through which the vapour passes. The area of each passage determines level of protection that the element provides. ERGIL Storagetech™’s Model 300 In-line Deflagration Flame Arrestor has a Maximum Experimental Safe Gap as per standard, and is suitable for gas groups IIB and IIA.

Under normal operation the flame element allows the bi-directional flow of air and flammable vapour, however it introduces additional pressure loss, and this must be considered in the design of the system. If a fire or ignition occurs external to the equipment and ignites the flammable discharge, the flame arrestor will quench the leading fire by absorbing and dispersing the heat as it passes through the element.

The unit is supplied with an earth point, copper tag and cable. Periodically the cell can be removed for cleaning or replacement.

The MODEL 300 deflagration flame arrestor is suitable for quenching subsonic flames and should be mounted in the vertical plane, close to the source of any potential ignition. It is suitable for use with any of ERGIL Storagetech™’s Pressure Relief, and Pressure-Vacuum Valves, and should be installed on the inlet to the Pressure Relief unit.

ERGIL Storagetech™ Flame Arrestor (Vertical, in-line, detonation)

ERGIL Storagetech™’s Model 320 In-line Detonation Flame Arrestor (also called flame arrestor or fire arrestor) is designed for installation in gas pipelines. Detonation occurs when a flame travelling through the pipeline reaches supersonic velocities, usually as a result of the pipeline configuration or pipeline surface roughness. Changes in gas density and pressure causes the flame velocity to metamorphose from subsonic to supersonic.

ERGIL Storagetech™’s Model 320 In-line Detonation Flame Arrestor has a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) as per the standard, and is suitable for gas groups IIB and IIA.

The detonation flame arrestor is more robust than the deflagration flame arrestor, and contiguous scrolls have smaller MESGs to withstand higher pressures and to quench detonations. It should be installed in the pipeline where there is a significant distance between the unit and the potential source of ignition.

The unit is supplied with an earth point, copper tag and cable. Temperature sensor can be provided upon request. The element can easily be removed for cleaning or replacement.

ERGIL Storagetech™ Flame Arrestor (End-Of-Line, Deflagration)

ERGIL StorageTech™’s Model 310 End of Line Deflagration Type Flame arrestors are passive devices that prevent the propagation of a flame or fire from entering into an opening in a pipeline or vessel discharging flammable vapour. The flame cell, under normal operation, allows the free flow of vapour, although it does introduce some additional pressure-loss that must be considered in the design of the system. In a situation where a fire occurs external to the equipment and ignites the vapour, the flames will start to travel back through the system. The flame arrestor will prevent the flame from entering the opening.

This deflagration flame arrestor is suitable for quenching subsonic flames and should be located at the end of a pipeline or exit from a vessel. It should be installed in the horizontal plane and is not for use with pressure relief valves or pressure-vacuum relief valves. A cap and screen protects the vent and restricts dust, wind, rain, or insects from entering and degrading the efficacy of the product. The unit is supplied with an earth point, copper tag and cable. Cap has a special opening mechanism, which allows opening automatically after certain time and temperature, so fire flies freely to minimize the effect.

The cell can be removed for cleaning or replacement.

Storagetech™ Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve (Top mounted, end-of-line, weight-loaded)

Storagetech™’s Model 100 Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve provides protection to bulk storage tanks and vessels from over and under pressurisation. The valves are mounted on the tank roof flange or a vent pipe from the vapour space.

In the closed position the pressure relief pallet and diaphragm assembly is held tightly against a seal to prevent the loss of vapour to the atmosphere. As the internal pressure in the tank increases, due to product filling and vapour development, the pressure in tank increases and in the event that the set pressure of the unit is reached, the diaphragm will open and discharge the gas to the atmosphere. The opening set-point is selectable from a range +2.0 mbar and +60 mbar. (+0.8 inch W.C and +24 inch W.C), and the valve will reseal when the tank returns to a safe pressure.

The vacuum pallet and diaphragm assembly is similarly maintained in the closed position. As the internal pressure in the tank reduces, due to emptying, the balance between the tank pressure and the external atmospheric pressure changes, and when the set pressure of the unit is reached, the diaphragm opens to admit air and rebalance the internal pressure. The vacuum set-point is selectable from a range between +2.0 mbar and +60 mbar. (+0.8 inch W.C and +24 inch W.C).The valve will reseal when the tank returns to a safe pressure.

Several features are inherent in the valve design to ensure a smooth, positive and effective operation. The body is self-draining and drip rings prevent condensate from settling on seating surfaces. A diaphragm and seal manufactured from Teflon reduce the possibility of ice formation and sticky residues hindering the valve from opening, while the pallet assembly moves freely on guideposts. The outlet port is protected by a weather hood and mesh guard to prevent ingress of debris that might obstruct the opening, while a mesh filter screen in the vacuum inlet port performs the same function.

ERGIL Storagetech™ Gauge Hatch (Non-atmospheric, sampling slot dip hatch)

ERGIL Storagetech™’s Non-atmospheric Sampling Gauge Hatch provides access to bulk storage tanks while protection personnel and the environment when taking product samples, temperature, and gauging the depth product and residual water.

Designed specifically for use with volatile and hazardous liquids, the loss of liquid product and noxious vapour is minimised due to the construction of the hatch chamber. The unit is an assembly of two chambers, with upper and lower sections being isolated by a manually operated sealing disc. Entry to the Sampling Gauge Hatch is through a lockable closure in which a bayonet fitting will allow entry for the sampling, and temperature devices, and depth measuring tape. Considering its closed system Storagetech slot dip device is suitable for Nitrogen Blanketing (N2 Blanketing).

With the lower chamber sealed, the closure can be opened and the measuring or sampling device inserted through the bayonet fitting and loaded into the top chamber. The closure is sealed before the chamber sealing disc opened. The collection device descends into the tank under the control of the operator at the top of the tank, and collects the sample or information required.

The operator withdraws the device into the top chamber and seals the two chambers. The closure can be opened and the sample and information retrieved. The bayonet fitting entry is plugged, and the closure shut and locked.

The ERGIL Storagetech™ Sample Gauge Hatch is used in the petroleum, petrochemical, chemical industries, and in many instances replaces the use of conventional gauge hatch. It must be installed on a flange at the top of the tank in the horizontal plane.

Matching connectors for the closure bayonet fitting can be supplied by ERGIL Storagetech™.

ERGIL Storagetech™ Thief Hatch (Weight loaded)

ERGIL Storagetech™’s Model 240 Thief Hatch offers protection against pressure and vacuum.

Within the cover are a static pressure seal, and a weight-loaded vacuum pallet and diaphragm assembly. The pressure and vacuum settings can be selected from a standard list.

As excessive pressure builds up in the storage tank or vessel the hinged hatch cover lifts, breaking the seal and allowing excess pressure to dissipate into the atmosphere. It closes under gravity when the pressure has returned to normal.

If the tank is subjected to negative pressure, the vacuum pallet and diaphragm assembly opens and allows air to be drawn into the vessel. The diaphragm closes when a positive pressure is established.

The unit must be installed on a flange at the top of the tank in the horizontal plane. It is possible to access the tank for gauging and sampling by fully opening the hatch.
